More Information

Joost Klein is a 26-year-old performer, writer and artist. His energetic style merges elements from mainstream pop with happy hardcore and punk. He has been praised for his poetic lyrics combined with catchy beats that capture the spirit of youth. In his song songs, he talks of his own personal suffering, such as losing his parents at a young age, and is open about his mental health issues. He transforms sadness into elation, with the message that we’re all human. “It’s ok: none of us are ok".

He represents the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest with Europapa, a tribute to his father. Through the song he is showing that there are no limits if you want to make your dreams come true and tell your story. ‘Europapa’ is a madcap mix of nostalgia, melancholy and happiness, delivered with the poetic lyrics and catchy beats for which Joost has become renowned.

“Europapa is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and beyond) to find himself and tell his story” explains Joost. “At first, people don't recognise him, but he goes on seizing any opportunity he gets to let himself be seen. ‘Europapa’ is a tribute to my father. When bringing me up, he passed an expansive view of the world on to me.”

In the Dutch & Belgium live circuit, Joost is known for his legendary shows at festivals like Lowlands, Pinkpop and Pukkelpop. Last November he gave two sold-out concerts at Amsterdam’s 6,000-capacity AFAS Live. Recently he won the prestigious Popprijs 2023, which is awarded annually in the Netherlands to the band or artist that has had the most impact in Dutch pop music that year.

Joost's fan base abroad is also growing. In Belgium he performed in a sold-out Lotto Arena in Antwerp. Last summer Joost had a number-1 hit in Germany with 'Friesenjung', which has since had over 100 million streams worldwide and won 'Best Song' in Germany's 1LIVE Krone radio awards. He also has a lot of airplay and a growing fanbase in Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, the UK, Poland, Italy and Ukraine.
